UPDATE:
The list that appeared here had grown to several hundred Twitter accounts, so I have retitled it and reposted in full as 501 Australian Journalists and News Media People on Twitter. Visit that post to see a larger list of Australian media people on Twitter, and add yourself in the comments.
To more accurately reflect this post’s title, Australia’s Top 100 Journalists and News Media People on Twitter, the list here has been trimmed back to who I consider to be the top 100 Australian journalists and news media people on Twitter.

hi
Just an update: I’m now based at APN’s Sunshine Coast Daily.
@chrizap = Chris Zappone at Fairfax’s BusinessDay, updated throughout the day
Your list is massively out of date. Heaps of AAP and fairfax journos missing. Latikambourke from fairfax radio, Sandraom from aap, daniellecronin and jamesmassola from the canberra times, julieposetti, former abc and freelancer, lyndalcurtis and virginiahaussegger from abc…
Thanks for the post. What do you all think of the future of blogging? I have been reading a lot about google’s attempt to gain preferential treatment for its site from internet providers. This will result in their sites being faster than sites owned by individuals and/or smaller comapnies. It’s my beleif that if google is able to succeed there will be far less websites out there and therefore far less blogging. Cheers!
David @uommedia
Hi there, just quickly correcting the @uommedia account under academics – we’re missing our ‘u’.
Great list though, thanks.

This list is excellent and thanks for including me in it – I genuinely appreciate it.
I’m no longer the editor of the Sydney Star Observer, I am now an editor with Cumberland Newspapers. I’m only putting this out there as I don’t want my inane twitters to be considered as an opinion on the state of Australia’s gay and lesbian community. I quite happily spend more time in Cabramatta than Darlo these days.
No worries Stacy :) I’m about to update the whole list, so will make the change. Thanks for letting me know!
Great list. Thanks!

Are you asking if it’s a blog written by journalists?
No idea, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen it.
Heya
Freelance wine/travel writer here. Working from Sydney but freelance to variety of publications, both newsstand and trade. Most well known is Time Out Sydney where I am Wine Writer.
Many thanks
Mike Bennie
@mike – you forgot to put in your twitter account
Not quite sure why the WordPress Tweetbacks plugin isn’t working. It’s showing at the bottom of the post as no Tweetbacks on the post yet, but as I write this backtweets.com is showing the post has been retweeted 135 times so far.
A few weeks ago I wrote about the Power of the Retweet. Nine retweets in three hours meant one story reached a potential audience of 7600 people. I was reminded of that post when I noticed Darren Rowse from Problogger had retweeted the link. Darren has 57,000 followers alone on Twitter…
I must be in the bottom 100. Oh well.
@rosevines Rose Vines, freelance writer, writes mostly for Australian PC User and Office Watch, working in New Orleans.
@metaverseoz – under Freelancers ;)

Hey,
you forget Brisbane community radio station @4zzz
Gold Coast music website My Vision TV http://www.myvisiontv.com.au: @myvisiontv
and because I love self-promotion, I’m a journalist! @HannahRobertson
Hi Hannah. I know about the 4ZZZ account, but the list is really for individuals, not media outlets.
For a fairly comprehensive list of media organisations on Twitter, currently the best place to look is fanbloodytastic’s Top 1000 :)
http://fanbloodytastic.com/top1000/media/a-z
Shame that the Fairfax list forgot to mention journos from The Age in Melbourne. It’s not all about Sydney – sorry, in Sydney it is.
The list might include more Fairfax people from Melbourne (I don’t know, does it include any?) if I had ever seen them on Twitter.
They could be there…but I haven’t come across them in the course of my Twitter experience.
And I won’t be wasting my time actively searching for them. There is no agenda.
Thanks for the continuing additions and corrections everyone! There’s a whole bunch here I’ll have to catch up with over the weekend.
@m0nty – I’ve corrected yours and pulled it out of “Teachers” :)
@dr_nic – I actually came across your account during the ensuing discussion about this list. You only don’t appear here because I hadn’t seen your Twitter account before! :)
That goes for everyone… this was a randomly collated list of journalist’s accounts I stumbled across. By the way, apologies to anyone upset by appearing in “Miscellaneous Unknown”. I’m more than happy to correct that (time permitting) if you tell me where you’re from!
I feel so cruelly overlooked!
Should be noted that the descriptiom editor is in the American rather than the Australian sense of the word.
Hi,
Add me! Marisa Wikramanayake, freelance, Perth, feature writer and columnist, also music beat, writing for RTR FM and The Sunday Leader. My twitter would be @mwikramanayake .
Thanks for the list, Marisa.
Hi, great list, tried adding a comment a few times but get an error each time. Oh well, here’s a another shot with different text and html removed.

What a nice list about journalist and i think it is helpful for my career.
Its sounds good, the information is very productive and informative. Marketing firms are now offering few of the services like creative design, consumer data, printing, fulfillment, analytics and website solutions. Good to see these kinds of services.
While I do indeed write a column for CRN, my day job is Editor of MacTheMag. I have two twitter accounts: @mjcp and @MacTheTwit. I don’t know if that changes how you want to classify me, but I thought “miscellaneous unknown” was a little harsh.
Small typo in http://twitter.com/tirplejdools
Hi Dave,
Really appreciate you putting together this epic list. A few notes:
I’m not on staff at jmag any more, although I do freelance for them. jmag editor Jenny Valentish twitters at @triplejmag.
The Twitter profile you listed for me is private. In public, I Twitter at @ftpathzeitgeist and @the_enthusiast.
Also – and this is really petty but hey, it’s the editor in me – my surname has a P in it!
@elerimai (Eleri Harris) and @rbbrown (Ruth Brown), who are in your uncategorised list, are both Crikey journalists, as is Crikey deputy editor @sophblack (Sophie Black) and @andrewjcrook (Andrew Crook). Sarah Stokely no longer works for Crikey.
I’m the food writer at City News (News Ltd – Brisbane) and chief sub at Quest. Yay! Also have a food blog called eat. (noice, different, unewsual)
Foodie, journo.

I twit on food, wine and travel in South East Queensland. There are 205 posts on my blog. Kerry Heaney, Freelance Writer.
Pretty impressive list I must say. However I henceforth wish to be known as “writer, Rave magazine, Brisbane”, “journalist” and “music writer” as well a “freelancer” :) Recommended music personality: Andrew McMillen aka @niteshok.
Peace,
Denis Semchenko aka @musojourno

Also @kyza, @stillpixel and @dreadfuldan are very talented Music Photographers.
I am @m0nty and I don’t know where you got the idea that I work at RMIT. I am a graduate of that J-school, admittedly. I am an independent publisher, my site is FanFooty.

Interesting list. Are they just doing it at the behest of their editors? How much and what will they ad in the long-term, given they churn out so much in print? @prlab
Dave: No worries, I’m fairly forgettable! 8)
I can imagine what the Tweet Alert inbox is going to look like once all the Digital Marketers get onto this one!
What is interesting is how this changes the way businesses will promote their news (or does it?)
It will change how businesses promote their news, but more how they manage their image – by watching what’s being said or asked by journalists, and “smoothing” things over before a negative story takes off.
To everyone – thanks for the additions of your own accounts, and the corrections as well.
Some comments were getting filtered as spam, but I’ve approved those now. If you leave a comment and it doesn’t show, I’ll see and approve it eventually. Otherwise give me a nudge via Twitter. I’m @earleyedition.
Keep them coming. I’ll add them back into the list when and where possible, but don’t forget your comments can include HTML code, so you can create a link to your account!
A journalist who doesn’t know basic HTML? Better fix that.
Creating a hyperlink in HTML
Twitter was once the realm of the tech journalist and IT crowd, but now it’s a little more mainstream, so this is a quick tip some readers might actually benefit from.
Consider this your first lesson towards becoming a multimedia journalist if you are frightened by these interwebs.
To create a link to a web page, use the following code:
<a href="http://webpage.co">link name</a>And so, to create a hyperlink to http://twitter.com/earleyedition, or your account, you just wrap the above code around @twitteraccount.
So,
<a href="http://twitter.com/earleyedition">@earleyedition</a>, shows in the comment as:@earleyedition
Don’t forget to close your link tag with
</a>, otherwise the link never ends.Learn up on basic HTML tags with this HTML Cheatsheet.
Technically, I write for defamer.com.au. Also, I would prefer either Professor or Princess in front of my name. Honoured to make the list, THANK YOU.
Glad to have you in the list Jess. I’ll see what I can do about the appropriate title ;)

@alex – if you have a Twitter account, feel free to add your name to the list here in comments :)
AWESOME now I don’t have to keep the list up to date. Too much like unpaid work – got to 90 and gave up. hah! But seriously, you have added to this list exponentially, great research, great use of connections, clearly presented. Have you ever thought of being a journalist yourself, poppet? :P
@SilkCharm
Thanks, I commented on your list that I had been thinking of doing same… Have since been slowly collating… As I said though, personally collecting them all has become nigh impossible given the recent and continuing influx.
triple j Morning aka Zan Rowe.
Just clarifying that I have a name, and am not simply a time of day.
Thanks Zan :) I included those Triple J “show” accounts (where I haven’t included ABC Local Radio accounts) because I’ve noticed they are generally run by the presenters as a personal account. Now added you by name. Will do others as time permits.
“Multimedia producer?” That’s correct.
Thanks Irena… thought I’d removed all the question marks! :)
