An interesting article was quoted by AIJAC last Friday from the Ottawa Citizen.
You probably saw in the news that Israel bombed a UN post in Lebanon, killing four UN peacekeeprers.
Based on an email from a Canadian UN peacekeeper who was killed in the bombing, the article says Hezbollah was using the UN post as a ’shield’.
Part of the email read:
“What I can tell you is this. We have on a daily basis had numerous occasions where our position has come under direct or indirect fire from both (Israeli) artillery and aerial bombing.
The closest artillery has landed within 2 meters of our position and the closest 1000 lb aerial bomb has landed 100 meters from our patrol base. This has not been deliberate targeting, but rather due to tactical necessity.
…
[From the post can be seen the] “Hezbollah static positions in and around our patrol base.”
It appears that the lion’s share of fighting between the IDF and Hezbollah has taken place in our area.”
The article points to the obvious conclusion, that Hezbollah were active in the area. This contradicts the official UN position of denying Hezbollah activity near the post.
You would think Israel would use that in their defence, but they seem pretty resolute in their decision to not give a toss what anyone thinks about what they’re doing.

Israel is very bad in explaining/excusing its policy. So in the one time we get to fight a “Just War” according to all international law criteria, of course Israel will not use an apologetic tone. It does not matter anyway. There will be always those that will say Israel should sit quietly and let Hizollah fire rockets, so why bother?
Yes, I should have added on the end of that post, “and you’ve got to respect them for that”.
