World Cup – Day 9

Portugal 2 – 0 Iran
Italy 1 – 1 USA
Czech Republic 0 – 2 Ghana

I didn’t watch any of these games, but was shocked by what happened in Group E.

I know I say world rankings are pretty much meaningless inside the top 50, but I didn’t expect to see Ghana beat the Czech Republic. Neither did I really expect the USA to draw with Italy – although Italy are admittedly fairly useless.

I was shocked because the results throw Group E wide open. Italy and the Czech Republic would have virtually been guaranteed a place in the second round but now any one of the four could now go through depending on the results of Italy v Czech Republic and USA v Ghana in a few days.
